Terms & Conditions

The Greek Project is not a travel agency and is not a member of ABTA or any other such travel organisation. It is a group of friends organised as an Anglo-Greek not-for-profit cooperative whose primary mission is to promote a deeper appreciation of Greek language, history and culture. This means in practical terms that when you come with us on a study-tour you are effectively responsible for your own up to date passport requirements and insurance matters. Indeed, it is a condition of coming on one of our study tours that you take out full, comprehensive travel insurance. This is to protect you not least for any last minute cancellations in the event e.g. of a bereavement, or of injury, or illness in the course of the trip, or loss of baggage. This does not mean that in the event of something going wrong, for instance, an accident, mishap, illness, or otherwise, we will not ensure that you are assisted and looked after to the very best of our ability. Additionally, you should know that we take out public liability insurance for each study tour. That said, we also ask you to sign a disclaimer when you commit to a tour which in effect confirms that you are an independent traveller or travellers to whom we act as guides only.

If you are interested in participation in any of our study-tours click on the enquiry form and we will send you a further full details of that tour on receipt. Here however are some practical guidelines as to how we operate.

Participants should be in reasonable health in the sense that they feel confident to be able to participate in short walking trips in Salonika, or where relevant, the surrounding countryside. Walking is part of what we do. Our trips are not arduous and we will lay on vehicle support where requested. However, in the first instance, participants themselves need to be the best judge of their health, mobility and fitness in what sometimes can be quite hot and sticky weather.

We ask in the booking form for any special dietary needs which we will do our utmost to cater for.

You confirm your participation in a study-tour through filling in the relevant booking form and paying a deposit by the given required date, usually about three months before the tour date. (We also reserve, in entirely exceptional circumstances, the right to return your deposit and decline to issue a confirmation at our absolute discretion).

We do not have a credit card facility but accept payment by cheque or bank transfer made out to ‘The Greek Project’

The deposit sum is normally £250.00 per person. Once paid this sum is normally non-refundable if you decide to cancel participation in the tour but be in touch in these circumstances and we will try and hold over your deposit for a later tour. In the event of a cancellation please contact us immediately. However, if for any spectacularly unforeseen reason we have to make cancellation of the trip you will receive your deposit back in full minus a five per cent administrative fee.

With the deposit we also require you to sign a disclaimer which comes with the booking form.

The full sum is then required by a particular date closer to the actual tour, usually about 6 weeks prior. After that point any cancellation you might need to make is entirely non-refundable as we are likely to have already entered into arrangements with hotel, restaurants and other services on the basis of the group size as given. If you should need to cancel your participation in a tour we will do our best to support any insurance claim you may have to make.

On the tour
All hotel, bus, coach sailing and similar elements of this trip are covered insurance-wise by the operating companies but other contingencies e.g. getting hit by a moving vehicle when you are out walking is clearly not. Hence the comprehensive insurance requirement.

If you get seriously ill or have an accident we have the resources to ensure that you always will have someone with you to act as guide, interpreter and support person, should for instance you have to go to a doctor or to a hospital, or need assistance getting to an airport in a hurry.

Our advance publicity itineraries are suggestive. There may be occasions where we need to change an aspect of an itinerary – perhaps at short notice – and for whatever good reason. We will always keep you informed of any such changes.

If for any unforeseen reason, such as very inclement weather, we have to cancel an aspect of the study tour we will lay on a good alternative.

What we cannot guarantee
We have no responsibility whatsoever for flights or flights cancellations, or force majeure, in other words any event beyond human control which makes the trip inoperable. That’s also why it’s absolutely essential you take out comprehensive travel insurance.

We cannot offer a refund for any accommodation or services you have not to that point used, where you, yourself, for whatever reason, might decide to terminate a trip. Depending on the circumstances, your travel insurance may offer cover for curtailment and we suggest that any claim is made directly with them.

We hope this information helps. If you need further advice please contact us by way of info@greekproject.co.uk
