Salonika

Fantastic Food and Drink

What everybody agrees about Salonika is the fantastic food and drink… and the vibrant city life which goes with it.  So, just to whet your appetite, here’s a brief section from our Salonika information pack on the sweet end of the spectrum!

Trigona’ (Triangles): This is a regional speciality: fillo pastry folded into cones, filled with rich creamy custard and glazed with honey. Absolutely divine and worth a try even if you don’t have a sweet tooth. You can find them in big central bakeries.

Baklava: Originating from Asia Minor, this rich sweet pastry is made of layers of filo filled with chopped nuts and sugar and held together with syrup or honey. Although it is considered as a dessert made and eaten at Christmas, you can find it all year round in certain bakeries.

Tsoureki: A brioche type bread in the shape of a plait and covered or filled with chocolate, cream or nuts. It is traditionally made and offered at Easter but you can easily find it in almost every bakery all year round.

By the way, you can upload some really good videos from YouTube of Salonika past and present. Here are two we thought you might like:
